NorthWood Diffuser Collection
NorthWood High-Output Car Diffuser Base™
An ultra-low viscosity carrier specifically engineered to penetrate wooden diffuser caps and perform in extreme automotive temperature swings.
Small Space Performance, Engineered for Automotive
Vehicle interiors present unique challenges: compact air volumes, wooden wicking surfaces, and extreme heat or cold. Our High-Output Car Diffuser Base is formulated to solve these issues, providing a consistent scent "bloom" that standard bases can't match.
By focusing on rapid capillary action, this base ensures that hanging wood-cap diffusers stay saturated and active, transforming every drive into a premium sensory experience.
Best Fit
Specifically designed for hanging car diffusers and small spaces using wooden wicking caps.
Fragrance Load
Recommended at 15–25%. Ensure compliance with IFRA Category 10A for automotive use.
Thermal Resilience
Resists separation and sludging in extreme summer heat and sub-zero winter temperatures.
How to Use
- Mix fragrance oil (up to 25%) with base
- Fill car diffuser bottle, leaving small headspace
- Secure wooden lid tightly
- Tip bottle for 2-3 seconds to saturate the wood
- Replace the stopper on the bottle to prevent spills.
- Hang and enjoy immediate scent dispersion

Pro-Maker Tip
For a faster initial "throw," tip the bottle once every few days to keep the wooden cap refreshed with oil. Always ensure the lid is secure to prevent leaks on vehicle surfaces.
Professional Maker’s Guide
Formulation & Bottling:
- Ratio: Mix at a 4:1 ratio (20% fragrance load) for optimal wicking.
- Blending: Stir for 45 seconds until the mixture is crystal clear.
- Filling: Use a pipette to fill 8ml or 10ml bottles, leaving 2mm of headspace.
The Saturation Test:
To ensure your base is performing correctly with your specific wood lids:
- Invert the finished bottle for 3–5 seconds.
- Observe the wood cap; it should show a dark, even saturation within 60 seconds.
- If the wood remains dry, 5-10% SDA 40B can be added to further lower viscosity.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this base leak on my dashboard?
When used correctly with a secure stopper and properly tightened wood lid, this base is leak-resistant. We recommend advising customers to only tip the bottle for 2-3 seconds at a time to prevent over-saturation of the wood, which is the primary cause of drips.
Does it work in extreme winter/summer temperatures?
Yes. Standard reed bases often "sludge" or separate in cold weather. Our High-Output formula is thermally stabilized to remain fluid and active from -10°F to 120°F.
Can I use this for standard reed diffusers too?
While it will function, it is optimized for the high-speed wicking needed for wood lids. For standard rattan or fiber reeds in a home environment, our Balanced or Performance bases will provide a more controlled, longer-lasting evaporation rate.
