The sizing system for Ultra Core Wicks is based on the size of the melt pool when burned in paraffin wax. The wick numbers below represent the diameter of the 140 degree melt pool of paraffin wax after burning for two hours as provided by the manufacturer.

They work!
Firstly, the quality of these wicks is top-notch! In my opinion, they are by far the best cotton wicks available on the market today.
I am happy to report that they maintain their stability throughout the entire burn, which is a huge plus for me. Another great thing about these wicks is their range of sizes. There's mushrooming, (not excessive) somewhat expected. Price-wise, I’ve looked at other suppliers that offer these same wicks and their pricing is a bit more doable, except that not all carry all 18 sizes, so I'm somewhat undecided because the cost increases with larger sizes, particularly in the 100 count and beyond, and given that I reside in Florida, the shipping cost is also higher. Overall, I highly recommend these wicks to anyone who is looking for high-quality cotton wicks.

I’ve been making candles for about 4 years now and I hadn’t used ultra core wicks till now and fell in love. This was the first time I had order wicks with NorthWood Candle but the ordering process was wonderful. The size I had ordered were too small for my candles but that was all on me and that just meant I had to make another order for bigger sizes which I did. I’m just waiting to get those in the mail.

This is the only place I can get these wicks and I'm so thankful that Northwoods carries them.

Zinc core wicks worked like a dream in my 6046 para/coco wax but I personally don't like metal core wicks for a handful of reasons. These worked well as an alternative. I did need to wick down as my wax has a lower melt point than what the manufacturer used for size recommendations. I get no soot and a stable upright flame that keeps my jar temperature safe.
The wicks burn good
We just finished our burn test with the Ultra Core Wicks and we love them! They perform well in our soy/coconut blend wax. They seem to burn more evenly and although there is a little mushrooming, it's not as much as other wicks we have used. We are getting ready to place another order!

I've always used CDN wicks for my candles, and decided to try these just because CDN wicks are very fragile (don't get me wrong, they've worked amazing for me nonetheless) so out of curiosity and continuous testing, I gave these a try. They hold up to their description and stay in place strong while lit. These will likely be my go-to from now on.
Really like these in Ceda Serica (coco apricot) very nice steady flame. I've been using lx, hpsp, and cdn with very good results, but ultra core might give them a run for their money.
